Chris Chowen is a Creative Technologist and PhD researcher in AI for Inclusive Digital Media at Royal Holloway, University of London, and the University of Surrey. His practice spans game design, VR, and AI, alongside professional work in digital development and innovation.
Chris previously managed The FuseBox innovation hub in Brighton, supporting artists and startups working with emerging technologies. His recent projects include a conversational classroom companion designed for safe student use, a rapid synthetic survey generator for data visualisation testing, a live poetry-to-image performance system, and a WebAR conversational business card.
His research focuses on ethical, accessible, and self-hosted AI for grassroots creatives, with an emphasis on cooperative models and practical governance. He regularly speaks at industry and academic events, from presenting to the COST AR network on creative AI to running workshops at the Brighton Creative AI Meetup and teaching AI filmmaking to artist communities.
