ASC announces inaugural inductees into Research Technologist Hall of Fame
ASC proudly celebrated a landmark moment for the research technology community last week with the inaugural Research Technologist Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Established to recognise the outstanding individuals whose innovation, expertise and dedication have shaped the evolution of market research technology, the Hall of Fame provides a permanent tribute to those whose contributions have transformed the industry, often behind the scenes. Introducing the ceremony, ASC Chair AJ Johnson reflected on the vital role technologists have played in driving the research sector forward and the importance of ensuring their achievements receive the recognition they deserve.
Following a six-month selection process, during which a panel of judges reviewed and debated more than 100 nominees, the first six inductees were welcomed into the Hall of Fame. The inaugural class represents a remarkable breadth of achievement across research technology.
The inductees were:
- Bjørn Haugland, founder of Confirmit and a pioneer of online research platforms
- Diane Hessan, whose Communispace business transformed the way organisations engage with consumers through online communities
- Jon Puleston, recognised internationally for his contributions to survey methodology and innovation
- Adrian Scamell (Abo), honoured for decades of excellence in data processing and operational expertise
- Steve Jenkins, co-founder of Snap Surveys and a driving force behind industry standards
- The late Ed Ross, founder of Quantime and one of the most influential pioneers in survey computing.
Adding a special and highly personal touch to the occasion, each inductee was presented with a bespoke handmade glass trophy created exclusively for the Hall of Fame. Designed and crafted in collaboration with ASC by a talented local artist, the unique awards took more than two months to develop and produce. The striking trophies reflect both the prestige of the honour and the individuality of each recipient, ensuring that every inductee received a one-of-a-kind piece. The care, creativity and craftsmanship invested in their creation mirrored the spirit of the Hall of Fame itself, and ASC hopes that each recipient will proudly treasure their award as a lasting reminder of their contribution to the research technology profession.
Sponsored by Ipsos, the ceremony was both a celebration of individual achievement and a reflection on the industry’s remarkable technological journey. Acceptance speeches highlighted themes of curiosity, innovation, collaboration and the importance of supporting future generations of researchers and technologists. Many inductees were quick to acknowledge the colleagues, teams and communities who contributed to their success, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that has long characterised the profession.
As the first six names take their place in the ASC Research Technologist Hall of Fame, the award establishes a lasting legacy that will continue to honour the pioneers whose work has helped define the past, present and future of research technology.
