ASC to offer membership free of charge
ASC has relaunched its membership scheme with a compelling offer for members of the research technology community or those who follow the ASC’s series of conferences and events. There are now no fees to join and become a member of the ASC.
The ASC’s executive committee took took the decision as a way to mark ASC’s transition to becoming a community interest company, and to regrow its membership, after the pandemic.

Rebecca Cole, one of ASC’s two Co-chairs said: “Moving to being a CIC has made us think hard about our responsibilities to our community as a whole, and we know some have struggled to justify paying a subscription either to their employers or from their own pocket.”
Tim Macer, ASC’s other co-chair added: “And as we are now defined as a community interest company with a ‘large membership’, we’re committed to ensuring our membership is not just a decent size, but represents everyone across our sector. So we hope this will encourage new members to join.”
Members benefit from reduced entry costs to most of our events, priority booking at ASC’s popular social events as well as being updated about all of ASC’s activities. Members also play an important role in the democratic governance of the ASC, which is member-owned and volunteer-led.
Anyone wishing to join can now complete a simplified membership application online at the ASC website.
ASC is funded by a combination of revenues from ticket sales at its conferences, and through sponsorship. ASC will review membership fees annually, but the executive has already decided, come January 2024 when memberships get renewed, to keep fees at zero for another year.
